Mom And Tech

Thanks for the post from Rashad Townsend

Mom’s need to know technology nowadays and that’s just how it is. I was really naïve and thought that my kids would tell me anything I wanted to know but as it turns out they want to keep you in the dark about things so you don’t know what there is to monitor about their technological interactions. I only figured this out when my brother who’s a tech whiz came over and had everyone get out their computers. He then proceeded to show me their history where it turned out my daughter had been visiting chat rooms! I know now to monitor really closely which sites they’re visiting and what they’re watching on direct tv federal way but you know, there’s only so many tabs you can keep on kids. They’re going to do what they want to do even if they have to lie to you about it and that’s the honest truth, unfortunately. Technology just makes it even harder to stay one step ahead of our kids but I guess that’s the trade off.

Staying in touch

This guest post from Werner Rogers

I love that we decided to wildblue satellite internet. I live in Iowa, far away from my family in Florida. I try to stay in touch with my close family members on the phone everyday, but for those family members that I don’t talk to so often, I have enjoyed getting to e-mail them. I reached out to my first cousin that lives in Hawaii. We e-mail about twice a week. I think that I am even going to get to visit her soon. I also like getting pictures of my nieces and nephews on-line that I usually had to wait weeks to get hard copies. I feel like I am in better touch with my brothers and sisters now and know what is going on in everyone’s lives. Being so far away from my family, I often feel left out and don’t know what is going on with everyone day to day. Now e-mailing and following my sister’s blog spot helps to keep me in the loop. I wish we had gotten satellite internet sooner.
